Yeongam F1 Circuit Solar Plant

The Yeongam F1 Circuit Solar Plant offsets approximately 12,000 metric tons of emissions every year. The plant helps to reduce air pollution in a region of Korea that historically has suffered from pollutants from neighboring countries severely diminishing the air quality. Though the local population cannot bring about change in neighboring countries, the region approved this project to popularize sustainable energy in an easily marketable manner. The solar panels that constitute this project are located above and around the F1 race track in Yeongam and serve to both promote renewable energy development in the region alongside providing shade to cars to prevent them from overheating.

This project showcases how many sustainable energy projects serve a dual purpose and promote a positive public opinion on further sustainable development. It also displays how sustainable development in areas that are heavily polluted can have a positive effect on the local environment.
